Flor de Miel Media presents ‘Narco Beauty and La Environmentalista,’ spoken word poem read by Catherine Herrera

I’ve been working behind the scenes on breaking down the ‘Open Doors’ preview – I was quite surprised by the impact the creative process had on me personally, opening doors in ways unexpected. I am grateful to grow and develop, and learn each day. As that work continues, here is a new spoken word poem I wrote this week. This time, I have a recorded reading. I am available for readings of my spoken word poems so reach out by email if you are interested in booking a reading. (assignments@flordemielfilms.com) I am also available to screen ‘Bridge Walkers,’ and talk … Continue reading Flor de Miel Media presents ‘Narco Beauty and La Environmentalista,’ spoken word poem read by Catherine Herrera

Still Healing…’Open Doors’ preview before 2015 Official Launch

I want to thank Audible Observatories 2012 for the invitation to preview ‘Open  Doors‘ which officially launches in 2015. San Francisco is a very meaningful place to me to launch a new anthropological archive of the Ohlone people – ‘Open Doors‘ involves an inter-generational process focused on healing. The entire Ohlone community is the center of ‘Open Doors’ and for 2013, ‘Open Doors’ presents a model for facilitating dialogue that can travel and be of healing to other communities. The Ohlone Youth Cultural Revitalization is fast at work creating a new generation of art, writing, music, song and revitalization of … Continue reading Still Healing…’Open Doors’ preview before 2015 Official Launch

Early Spring, Sacred Sites and San Francisco

Bridge Walkers will be showing a second time – tba – I’ve gotten great feedback, and helpful reflections. I am really grateful to everyone who came out on March 11, 2011 to the de Young Museum. That date will be etched forever in our minds, for the terrible news of the triple tragedy that struck Japan that fateful day. The installation reflects on volcanos and tsunami in very subtle ways, but rather than a harbinger, these brief visuals were a reflection of the tension in the air, as, in the past 10 years, we have witnessed, as a world, so … Continue reading Early Spring, Sacred Sites and San Francisco

Skoll Foundation Opens Window into Social Entrepreneurship Potential

Thank you to people who return to Sweet Entertainment for a read, or are stopping in for the first time. I have been busy preparing the last of the details on the installation proposal, and now, that everything is set for the March 11 showing, I’ve been focused on filming and getting ready. I have missed though the chance to write. A quick note today, a new video released by the University of Oxford’s Skoll Center for Social Entrepreneurship gives an excellent peek into what a movement of social entrepreneurship can do to transform poverty and powerlessness into sustainability that … Continue reading Skoll Foundation Opens Window into Social Entrepreneurship Potential

Water: Will Prayer Fix the Gusher?

Water: Will Prayer Fix the Gusher? An interesting debate erupted this week with the statement by Janeane Garofalo about using prayer to fix the gusher. She said calling for prayer as a solution to the Gulf of Mexico was anti-intellectual. Rather than a rant on her, for as I understand it, she meant if prayer were our only approach – which I agree makes sense – I want to explore the question: Can Prayer Heal the Gulf? This question about technology and science vs. prayer is one raising an interesting, albeit, tired debate. Man vs. Nature is not a new … Continue reading Water: Will Prayer Fix the Gusher?
